Google has added new data to Search Console that shows how your website performs in its AI search experience, called AI Mode. This helps website owners and SEO experts understand how people interact with AI-generated results.
What Is AI Mode?
AI Mode is a new search feature by Google. It gives more detailed answers using AI and includes links to different websites. It breaks down a question into smaller topics and shows helpful content like text, images, and carousels.
What New Data Is Added?
Google now shows the following in Search Console when your website appears in AI Mode:
Click: If someone clicks on your link inside AI Mode, it counts as a click.
Impression: If your page shows up in the AI answer, it’s counted as an impression.
Position: Each block in AI Mode (like a link or image) has its own position, just like in normal search results.
These metrics are now part of your total performance report in Google Search Console.
What About Follow-Up Questions?
If a user asks another question after the first one in AI Mode, Google treats it as a new search. So any clicks or impressions from that follow-up are tracked as part of a new query.
Why This Update Matters
Before this, there was no way to see how your site was doing in AI Mode. Now, with this update, you get more complete data about your content’s visibility and performance. However, Google still doesn’t let you filter only AI Mode data in the reports.
Final Words
This update is useful for SEOs and website owners who want to keep track of how their content is performing in AI-powered search. It's a good step forward, even if more filtering options would be helpful.
